THE FINAL

A controversial final which required a re-run. Ryland R led from trap 2 and had built up a clear lead at the first. He maintained this lead down the far side, although Seldom Lad began to threaten, and Mick The Miller used his usual track craft to challenge. Golden Hammer also began to run on and, at the final bend the leaders ran wide allowing Mick and Golden through. Mick prevailed by a head although the klaxon sounded before he crossed the line. The stewards claim  that Ryland had attacked Seldom Lad and that this should constitue a no-race.

The re-run took place without Ryland R and barely 30 minutes later. Golden Hammer led on the inside, challenge quickly by Seldom Lad who ran on strongly. Seldom prevailed by 4 lengths, with Golden Hammer holding on for second and Mick's Fancy running on into third. Mick The Miller was never a force and came home fourth.
