The 163rd winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Saturday 1st May 1971 over the Rowley Mile, was Brigadier Gerard (11/2), a bay colt by Queen's Hussar out of La Paiva, owned by Mrs Jean Hislop. The winner won by an impressive 3 lengths in 1 minute 39.20, with 3/4 length between second and third. A field of just 6 runners contested the race which was worth £27,283 (Equivalent to £387,400 in 2017)
