Although the last race on Anglesey under National Hunt rules took place on 4th November 1903 the island still maintains one obscure link with racing, namely Aunt Ada.

Aunt Ada was 17 on 1st January 2006 but lives a peaceful life, cared for by Nicky, at Bryn Ioan near Holyhead. She lives amongst Bordeaux dogs and delightful puppies, and a macaw called Ben whose voice box has a wider range than most humans.

Aunt Ada suffered misfortune during her racing life, although she started out in the prestigious stable of John Dunlop. She was owned by the brother of long time racing commentator John Rickman, and Geoffrey Rickman states, "As a yearling she went to John Dunlop's stables but had an accident and suffered a broken pelvis. She was in her box for several months, but then strengthened  up and was sent to Richard Rowe, former jump jockey turned trainer. She ran promisingly in a National Hunt race at Newbury but subsequently disappointed and was retired."
