Ascot racecourse is situated in Perth, Western Australia and is about 8 kilometres from the centre of the city.

 

   

It hosts 3 Group One races each year, including the Kingston Town Classic run over 2000 metres in December, the Railway Stakes run over 1600 metres in November, and the West Australian Turf Club Derby over 2400 metres run in April.

 

 
The inaugural running of the WATC Derby was in 1888 when it was won by Harridan. Its most recent winner, in 2008, was Grand Journey.

 

   

The Railway Stakes, a handicap, was run first in 1894 when it was won by Wandering Willie. Its most recent winner, in 2008, was Gilded Venom.
