Grateful thanks to Robin Charnock for providing the detailed information shown below

Records show that racing took place at Beccles, Suffolk as early as 1802 and had periods of racing until the final meeting on 9th September 1857. It is thought the meeting was at Waveney but this has yet to be confirmed.

Key Questions still to be answered:-

  • Where exactly was the course situated?

  • What shape and distance was it?

  • What remains of the course today?

  • Can anyone provide a map, badge or racecard from the course?

Meetings took place sporadically between 1802-1816, 1819-1849 and then a short burst in 1856 before coming to a close in 1857
