BIRDSVILLE RACECOURSE |
 |
| Birdsville is a small town in Western Queensland, about 1600 km west of Brisbane, and with a population of barely 100. However, this does not prevent it from being one of the most unusual, yet highly successful, racecourses in the world. |
| |
Its annual meeting, normally a 2 day meeting, is held each September, and can command crowds in excess of 6000. |
|
| Its principal race is the XXXX Gold Birdsville Cup, contested for 128 years but abandoned in 2010 due to excessive rain. |
