Cork 97.JPG (9523 bytes) CORK RACECOURSE
The first evidence of racing in the Cork area was when a match was organised to run from Buttevant to Doneraile in 1752. It was to become one of the first, if not the first, steeplechases given that it was between the steeples of the respective churches and was over a distance of 4 and a half miles.

Although there had been a racecourse established on Cork Park for some time, on its closure a new course was built in Mallow which was completed and ready for its first action in 1924.

The course now is able to offer high class flat and jump racing spread throughout the year, hosting as many as 19 meetings per year.

The most important races held at the track are the Cork Grand National and the Murphys Hurdle which has listed race status.
