The racecourse of Delta Downs can be found in the town of Vinton in the state of Louisiana. It first opened its gates to thoroughbred racing on 20th September 1973 and also hosts quarter horse races. The 6 furlong oval dirt track, with separate 5 furlong and 8 ½ furlong chutes, share a 200 metre home straight. The principal race was the Grade III Delta Jackpot Stakes for 2 year olds over 8 ½ furlongs which was first contested in 2002 when won by Outta Here ridden by Kent Desormeaux, but it did not take place in 2017 due to Hurricane Harvey, and it was decided to discontinue the race in 2018. Another feature race is the Delta Princess Stakes for 2 year old fillies over 8 furlongs which was launched in 2002. The track suffered badly from hurricane Rita in 2005 and had to abandon its programme, but it returned on 13th April 2006, and now offers all year round racing.
