This was run on Wednesday 24th May 1871 and the winner was bred by Baron Meyer de Rothschild and trained by Joseph Hayhoe at Newmarket. There were 17 runners from an initial entry of 208. The winner won by 1 1/2 lengths in 2 min 50 secs, with a dead-heat for second place. The winner won a first prize of £5,125, (The equivalent of £573,900 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator).
