This was run on Wednesday 24th June 1868 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 3 yards at The Curragh and the winner was owned by Mr Holland (as shown on the Honours board, but this was a nom de course for William Bourke), trained privately and ridden by 'Red' Denis Wynne. There were 11 subscribers at 25 Guineas each. The winner, bred by Thomas Wright in Ireland, won by 6 lengths in a canter.

Pos. Horse Weight Jockey Owner Trainer
1 MADEIRA 8.7 Denis Wynne Mr Holland Private at Roscrea
2 BE QUICK 8.10 Thomas Miller Mr Michael Dunne Thomas Connolly

Bee Quick was sent off the 2/5 favourite with just one rival pitted against him. However, his supporters soon knew their fate as sole rival Madeira went off in front and was soon clear to win in the hands of ‘Red’ Denis Wynne by an easy 6 lengths. The owner William Bourke masked his true identity behind ‘Mr Holland’. In truth he was a very successful businessman from Roscrea who founded a stud and training stables at Kilmartin House.

2/5 fav Be Quick
2/1 Madeira
  Over round 103%
Although Madeira won in a canter by 6 lengths, the form is difficult to assess because there is no evidence that either Madeira or Be Quick ran before or after the race at The Curragh. Therefore the rating is a cautious 1840.
