KUMARA RACECOURSE |
|
| It is known that racing took place at the
course as early as 1887. A two-day meeting was held on 28th and 29th December of that
year. Subsequent meetings were held twice a year at Christmas and again at Easter. |
| |
The racecourse is situated at Kumara in the West Coast
region of South Island. |
|
| By the late 1940's the Kumara Racing Club
moved their annual meet to take place in January. |
| |
The principal race is the Kumara Golden Nuggets which is
unique because the winner receives 2 ozs of gold. |
