The La Mesa Park racecourse was based at the town of Raton in the state of New York and opened for racing on 12th August 1946. The 7 furlong oval dirt track had separate 6 furlong and 9 furlong chutes and a 330 metre home straight. It boasted an open air grandstand capable of seating 3,000, together with a Clubhouse which could seat a further 586, and the restaurant where 400 could be served. The season extended throughout the summer months from early May until late September and its principal races were the Raton Derby and the Land of Enchantment Futurity. The racecourse closed its gates for the final time on 26th July 1992, although it still exists and locals still hope to see it reopen at some stage in the future.
