LA ZARZUELA RACECOURSE
La Zarzuela racecourse is the main racecourse serving the Spanish capital Madrid and first opened its gates in 1943. Its racing surface covers an impressive 110 hectares. However its history has been chequered and the course has gone through torrid times. In the mid 1990's its least was withdrawn after 25 years and after the December 1996 meeting racing ceased for the best part of 9 years.
The course was relaunched in 2005 and held its inaugural meeting on 23rd October.
In the past the course has staged steeplechase meetings around a unique figure of 8 course.
All of the major Spanish Classics are run at the course.
