NAAS RACECOURSE |
 |
| Situated about 20 miles from Dublin in the
County of Kildare, Naas Racecourse is reknowned for being the 'Graveyard of favourites'
having earned the title in 1924. It holds both Flat and Jump racing throughout the year. |
 |
The SwordlestownStud Sprint held at the track was, at one
time, the richest 2 year old sprint race in Europe. Other feature races were the Slaney
Hurdle and the Brown Lad Handicap Hurdle. |
 |
| On 10th March 1962 Pat Taffe rode Arkle for
the first time in the Rathconnell Handicap Hurdle at the track, winning by an easy 4
lengths from Soltest. |
 |
The Slaney Hurdle, run in January each year, is steeped in
history. The 2007 winner Kazal later came third in the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham
Festival. In 2008 Venalmar saw off the challenge of Trafford Lad. |
