OWLERTON GREYHOUND STADIUM

This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for the scans of badges on this page.

The greyhound track in the Owlerton region of Sheffield is situated at 1° 29' W 53° 24' N and first opened in 1932. It has witnessed some very good dogs throughout its history, not least Tric Trac and Spectre II who occupied the first and second spot in the English Greyhound Derby final of 1967. Naturally one of the most famous races to be run at the track is the Steel City cup over 500 metres after 1975 and over 550 yards prior to this date.

The Sheffield track at Owlerton was situated on the Penistone Road and raced under NGRC rules. The Chairman of the Board of Directors was Dr. A.W.B. Perren, the Racing Manager S.Vinter who was also a Steward alongside C.Cooper and W.Moyer.

In December 1970 the English Greyhound Derby winner of that year John's Silver won over 549 metres in a time of 33.18 secs.

Ratings are between 0 and 100, where 100 is an extremely fast time and reflects the speed of the track, tightness of the circuit and quality of greyhound visiting the tracks.
