Randwick racecourse is situated about 10 kilometres south east of Sydney City Centre in New South Wales and is operated by the Australian Jockey Club. It was the venue for one of the first recorded races in Australia when a Private Match took place in June 1833 after the Governor Richard Bourke allowed the sandy ground in the Randwick area to be used for racing. In those early days the course was known as the Sandy Course because of its surface. Racing continued until 1838 when the racecourse was closed for a time, although it was still used to train horses. In 1860 the Australian Jockey Club, led by Sir Edward Deas Thomson, became leaders in administering racing in the country, with a meeting held in May 1860 attended by a crowd in excess of 6000, after which it became firmly established as one of Australia's premier courses.

The rectangular 11 furlong turf track has a 2 furlong home straight, hosting no less than 16 Group One races annually, which include the Australian Jockey Club Derby and Oaks, both run in April for 3 year olds over 2400 metres. The Derby was first run in 1861 when won by Kyogle, while the Oaks was first run in 1912 when won by Uralla. It also hosts the Sydney Cup (initially known as the Jockey Club Handicap) in April over 3200 metres (previously 2 miles). This has been run at Randwick since 1862 when Talleyrand was successful. A further Group race is the Champagne Stakes for 2 year olds, first contested in 1861 over 1600 metres.
Whilst the winners of the Australian Derby and Oaks are freely available on the internet, and The Everest, a 10 million dollar sprint, was only launched in 2017 when won by Redzel, a list of winners of the Champagne Stakes and Sydney Cup are given below.
