The South Australia mining town of Roxby Downs lies in the outback of the state, some 560 kilometres north of the state capital Adelaide. The town is a ‘new or modern’ town of about 4000 inhabitants which was built in 1987, sponsored by the Olympic Dam Project, and officially opened on 5th November 1988. The town has its own racecourse which was formed in 1991, although it did not hold its first meeting until 1992. However, the Roxby Downs Racing Club staged its first official meeting in June 1994 when over 2000 people thronged to the course. The principal event was the Roxby Downs Cup which was won by Acrobat, trained by Brian Searle and ridden by Angela Barr. A full list of winners of the Cup is shown below:-

2009 The Roxby Downs Cup ($6,750) over 1800 metres was won by Renown Knight (100/30) trained by Mick Whittle and ridden by M Engleson, beating Pelekunu Valley and Granzig 8 ran
2010 The Roxby Downs Cup ($8,000) over 1800 metres was won by Granzig (5/1) trained by Mick Whittle and ridden by Ms I Greacen, beating Lotto Blues and Pelekunu Valley 10 ran
2011 The Roxby Downs Cup ($8,000) over 1800 metres was won by Young Tearaway (5/1) trained by Nicole Bruggermann and ridden by Glen Davis, beating Das Beagle and College King 8 ran
2012 The Roxby Downs Cup ($10,000) over 1800 metres was won by Young Tearaway (100/30) trained by Nicole Bruggermann and ridden by Desiree Stra, beating Pelekunu Valley and Weatherstorm 8 ran
2013 The Roxby Downs Cup ($10,000) over 1800 metres was won by Pelekunu Valley (9/4) trained by Ron Cambell and ridden by Libby Hopwood, beating Kingnadim and Royal Entity 6 ran
2014 The Roxby Downs Cup ($10,000) over 1800 metres was won by Hey Big Bender (7/4 fav) trained by Mick Whittle and ridden by Ronnie Bell, beating Ace Or Joka and Assertive Billy 8 ran
2015 The Roxby Downs Cup ($10,000) over 1800 metres was won by Al Chicago (5/2) trained by Wally Bencic and ridden by Ashley Doyle, beating Chambray and Island Bar 7 ran
2016 The Roxby Downs Cup ($10,000) over 1800 metres was won by Devon (Evens fav) trained by Kylie McKerlie and ridden by Brandon Griffiths, beating Flying Skipper and Little Audrey 4 ran
2017 The Roxby Downs Outback Cup ($10,000) over 1800 metres was won by Eigelstein (6/4) trained by Kylie McKerlie and ridden by Kayla Crowther, beating Umaluka and Emmooki’s Dash 5 ran
