This race was marred by controversy involving Sykes, Mr watt's stud groom, jockey John Jackson and his well fancied mount Blacklock, and Robert Johnson. Sykes instructed John Jackson to 'ride him as thou lik'st, only lay thee hands down and let him stride along and he'll distance the lot. Look out for me at the distance pole and I'll tell thee what to do'. In the race Blacklock led to the distance pole and was 3 lengths clear at the distance. However, Sykes instructed hil to pull him up as he thought he had the race settled. Meanwhile Robert Johnson moved Ebor to one side so that Jackson could not see him until it was too late. He got up by a head, much to the fury of Sykes and Jackson. Ebor only raced 6 times, winning 4 races, although one was a walk over. Over Round 133%
