WHEELING DOWNS RACECOURSE
The racecourse of Wheeling Downs was situated at Wheeling Island in the state of West Virginia.. Its inaugural thoroughbred race meeting was held in 1937 and it maintained good flat racing until a fire destroyed the grandstand in 1962.
	The course reopened for both flat and harness racing in 1970 but it closed its gates to horse racing for the final time in 1976.
After 1976 it became a prominent greyhound racing track.
