The racecourse of Zia Park, owned by Penn National Gaming, is based in the city of Hobbs in the state of New Mexico. The 8 furlong oval dirt track, with separate 6 ½ furlong chute and 302 metre home straight, held its inaugural meeting on 23rd September 2005. Its season, which encompasses both thoroughbred and quarter horse races, lasts from early September until early December with meetings taking place from Saturday through to Tuesday each week, culminating in the running of its principal race the Zia Park Derby. Other feature races include the New Mexico Futurity and Championship, the King Rick Rack Stakes and the Lovington Stakes.
