AVOCA RACECOURSE
The Avoca racecourse is located off the Pyrenees Highway at Avoca in Victoria. Little detail is known about the racing which first took place in the 1870's, but the first recorded racing at Avoca was in 1880 when the course was run by Avoca Shire Turf Club.
During the Second World War racing ceased for 7 years but was reintroduced in 1947.

The success of the course is based, in part, on holding race days that coincide with more famous occasions. It particularly takes advantage of when the Caulfield Cup is run and on Anzac Day which in 2009 is the 25th April.
Its principal race is the Avoca Cup run each October. Key Symbol was a strong fancy for the 2008 contest held on 18th October, but had to settle for third behind Old Songs.
