| 1603 First recorded evidence of racing in the vicinity of Leicester on 23rd March, the day before Queen Elizabeth I died. 1690 Records show that a meeting took place in the Abbey Meadow on 30th September. 1720 The Corporation Town Plate is re-established, having been abandoned for a number of years. 1740 Meeting is tranferred to St Mary's Field. 1807 The Gold Cup is run for the first time, a Cup worth 100 sovereign. 1883Races take place at the Oadby course for the first time, replacing the Victoria Park course.

Gordon Richards records his first winner, Gay Lord, at the track. 1931 Golden Miller graces Leicester by winning the Gopsall Maiden Hurdle on 20th January before going on to record much greater successes. |
