BUCHAN RACECOURSE
The Buchan Racecourse is to the south of the town of Buchan in Victoria and shares its position with the Golf Course. It is in the East Gippsland Shire near the Snowy River.
Records show that racing first took place at Buchan on Boxing Day 1887 at Speargrass Flat, and the card was remarkable. It included hurdle, trotting and open races but also a ladies race which was most adventorous at the time.

Today meetings are held at Canni Creek where it hosts Picnic Racing and has done so since 1947. These are operated by Buchan and Gelantipy Racing Club.
Much of the course is marked out by flags with wooden running rails for the final 200 metres.
