CRANBOURNE RACECOURSE |
 |
| Located on the South Gippsland Highway in
Victoria, Cranbourne Racecourse is about 30 miles South East of Melbourne. |
 |
The town can chart the history of racing in the area back
to 1860 when the Cranbourne Turf Club was formed. |
|
| Racing ceased during the Second World War but
returned to the racecourse soon after in 1946. The course needed a boost as it was only
allowed to race on Saturdays, but then a change of law allowed for mid-week racing and the
racecourse went from strength to strength. |
| |
The principal race is the Listed Cranbourne Cup run over
2025 metres each October and won in 2008 by Majestical. |
