Gowran 2008.JPG (7627 bytes) GOWRAN PARK RACECOURSE
The Gowran Park racecourse can be found on the old Annaly Estate in County Kilkenny. Records indicate that racing first took place in 1914 and that early card consisted of both Flat and Steeplechase races. The inaugural meeting was held on 16th June 1914.
In 1948 the Gowran Park Race Company Ltd was founded by, amongst others, Jack Duggan.

The racecourse was the first in Ireland to be televised, with that initial meeting taking place in 1969. Today the track hosts 16 race days annually.
A feature race is the Thyestes Chase contested each January. Some famous thoroughbreds have gained success in the race, not least the mighty Arkle who won in 1964 and then went on to land the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

In 2005 and 2006 both Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde were triumphant before recording Aintree Grand National successes.
