The Kyneton Racecourse can be approached along the Calder Highway some 55 miles North West of Melbourne in Victoria State.
Racing first took place at Kyneton in the 1850's, but the present day site on Campaspe Place was first used in 1857.

By 1858 the Kyneton Jockey Club was established and some 9 years later the Kyneton District Racing Club was formed to administer proceedings at the track.
There was a scare in 1883 when it was feared that the racing project would have to be abandoned, but it was rescued and can now boast a feature event of the Kyneton Cup contested on the same day as the more famous Melbourne Cup.
