KYNETON RACECOURSE |
|
| 3 credits |
| The Kyneton Racecourse can be approached along
the Calder Highway some 55 miles North West of Melbourne in Victoria State. |
| |
Racing first took place at Kyneton in the 1850's, but the
present day site on Campaspe Place was first used in 1857. |
|
| By 1858 the Kyneton Jockey Club was
established and some 9 years later the Kyneton District Racing Club was formed to
administer proceedings at the track. |
| |
There was a scare in 1883 when it was feared that the
racing project would have to be abandoned, but it was rescued and can now boast a feature
event of the Kyneton Cup contested on the same day as the more famous Melbourne Cup. |
