MILDURA RACECOURSE
Situated about 185 miles North West of Melbourne on the banks of the Murray River is Mildura Racecourse in the State of Victoria.
The Muldura Racing Club was established in 1888 although it was to be a further 22 years before racing took place at its present day site on Sandalong Park.

Tragedy nearly struck in 1917 when the nearby river burst its banks and the racecourse was under threat. There certainly needed to be a major rebuilding programme with facilities being built away from the Murray River.

By 1933 racing was once again threatened when the grandstand was gutted by fire. Further floods and natural disasters continued to play havoc with racing at the course.
It was only in the mid 1970s that the Racing Club were helped by the local council to build defences against the threat of further flooding.
