Newton-Le-Willows racing first began in 1793 and the poster shown opposite is advertising the very first racing at the new venue. It operated unbroken for 23 years before it ceased in 1816.

Racing began again in 1825 and continued for 73 years, its feature race being The Old Newton Cup.

The picture shown above is of a race taking place at Newton Le Willows in 1831 when Fylde beat Halston with Recovery less than a length back in third.

The final meeting at Newton-Le-Willows took place on 13th July 1898, whence the course closed to be replaced by Haydock Park, which has since become one of the countries Premier tracks.

With grateful thanks to Gerald Tinsley for the rare scans shown above and his constant support with Haydock Park history.
