THURLES RACECOURSE
Thurles Racecourse is situated in County Tipperary and can boast a long tradition of horse racing dating back as far as 1732. That first meeting was a 3 day affair which took place in June of that year.
By 1760 racing had been extended to a 6 day meeting which was scheduled to take place each October.

The racecourse, once firmly established, traditionally organised 4 meetings each year, in February, April, June and November. Such was the popularity of the races that all of the horses could not be stabled at the course and local people offered stabling facilities.
Today the racecourse is very much used to give horses their preparation races for the Cheltenham and Punchestown Festivals.
