TRAMORE RACECOURSE
Records show that racing first took place in this area in 1806 on a course known as the Black Strand. However, that racecourse has long been eaten up by the sea.
The present day racecourse in County Waterford first witnessed racing in 1914 on land owned by Martin Murphy, and he continued to conduct meetings right up to his death in 1920. During that First World War period the meetings were organised under the banner of the Red Cross.

After 1920 the course became owned by a company led by Tom Fleming, whose family continued their association with the racecourse until 1997.
The main meeting at Tramore is the Tramore Festival held each August.
