WEXFORD RACECOURSE
Racing is first recorded to have taken place in Wexford in 1870 although further records show that racing ceased in 1902.
Racing was re-established in 1951 on its present site off Selskar Street. The inaugural meeting took place on 15th October of that year at the new course at Bettyville. Indeed, such was the interest that a crowd in excess of 17000 were in attendance. The first race was won by Hypernod, ridden by Jimmy Eddery, father of the more famous jockey son Pat.

Significant improvements to both track and facilities took place in the late 1980's and immediately more prominent trainers began taking an interest.
A feature race at the track is the Smithwick's Hurdle which was won in 1968 by Orient War.
