This silver pass for York was originally the property of Mrs Elizabeth Hinchcliff, (formerley Elizabeth Crews), the wife of the Bishop of Peterborough. He was John Hinchcliff, born in 1732 and Master of Trinity College Cambridge 1768-89. He was Bishop of Peterborough from 1769 until his death in 1794. They had one daughter, Frances Hinchcliff, later to become Frances Clayton, who died on 16th August 1849.
